36th International Ground Control in Mining Conference

Final NAT 2018 Call for Papers

The 2018 North American Tunneling Conference Organizing Committee has issued a Call for Papers due June 30, 2017. NAT is planning the 2018 event in Washington, D.C., June 24-27, 2018. Prospective authors are invited to submit an abstract of 100 words or less on a topic relevant to the 2018 NAT theme: Tunneling: A Capital Idea. Randy Essex elected to ITA Executive Council


Randy Essex, Mott MacDonald’s Director of Professional Excellence and Practices, has been elected to a three-year term on the Executive Council of the International Tunneling Association. The election took place at the General Assembly of the World Tunnel Congress in Bergen, Norway, held June 9-15, 2017.

New GMSG Standards
Global Mining Standards and Guidelines Group has published the first two parts of its Underground Mine Communications Infrastructure Guideline: Positioning and Needs Analysis, and Scenarios and Applications. The guideline is being developed by the Underground Mining Working Group’s Communications Infrastructure sub-committee. Extraction 2018 Opens Call for Abstracts
With the new Extraction conference series, three leading societies in extractive metallurgy have collaborated to organize popular recurring symposia, develop new programming topics, and offer an array of networking events within one comprehensive meeting with a single registration fee. Extraction 2018, the inaugural installment in the series, is now accepting abstracts.

Organized by SME, the Metallurgy and Materials Society (MetSoc) of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM), and the Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS), Extraction 2018 will be held August 26–29, 2018, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
