Luis Piek, Geotechnical Design Manager for the San Francisco Central Subway Project, presented a webinar on August 29 detailing the Lake Mead Intake No. 3 project, which was one of most complex and challenging tunneling operations ever attempted. The 7.1m diameter multi-mode TBM holed through into a 100 ft. tall precast concrete intake that was secured to the bottom of the lake.
